need doing和need to do区别，别只背“人用 to do，物用 doing”。更可靠的判断是：need 后面那件事，到底是主语自己去做，还是别人要对主语做？主语自己执行动作，用 need to do；主语需要被处理，常用 need doing，也常能改成 need to be done。

1. 主语自己要行动，用 need to do
当你说的是某个人、某个团队，或者某个能主动完成动作的对象，需要去做某事时，用 need to + 动词原形。
I need to finish my homework.我得完成作业。We need to call the client today.我们今天得给客户打电话。The machine needs to cool down first.这台机器得先冷却下来。
最后一句很重要。主语是物，也照样可以用 need to do，因为 cool down 是机器本身发生的变化。可见“物主语一律用 doing”并不成立。
2. 主语需要被处理，用 need doing
need doing 常用在“某物、某人需要被清理、修理、检查、照顾”这类场景。表面是 doing，意思却常带被动关系：有人需要对主语完成这个动作。
The floor needs mopping.地板需要拖。This report needs checking.这份报告需要检查。My bike needs repairing.我的自行车需要修。The baby needs feeding.这个宝宝需要喂。
这里也能看出，主语不一定是物。The baby needs feeding 中的 baby 是人，但通常不是宝宝自己完成 feeding。判断标准仍然是动作执行者。
3. 不确定时，改成 need to be done
如果你怕 need doing 的被动意思不够直观，直接用 need to be + 过去分词。它把“被做”写得很清楚，和前面的常见句子意思基本相同。

The car needs washing. 的重点不是“车正在洗”，而是“车该洗了”。想强调正在进行的动作，要另用进行时：Someone is washing the car.
误用二：把被处理的对象写成动作执行者
想说“地板需要被拖”，不要写：
The floor needs to mop.
这会把 floor 放到 mop 的执行者位置，意思跑偏。改成：
The floor needs mopping.
或：
The floor needs to be mopped.
误用三：只按“人或物”套口诀
I need to rest. 是人自己休息，用 to rest。
The baby needs feeding. 是别人给宝宝喂食，用 feeding。
The machine needs to cool down. 是机器自身冷却，用 to cool down。
先找动作的执行者，再选结构，比背“人/物”更不容易错。

写完一句话后，依次问：
- 主语要自己做后面的动作吗？是，就优先
